Introduction to Vol Biv
Vol Biv(ouac). Flying and camping. The ultimate method of exploring mountains.
During this course the goal is to introduce pilots to vol biv by completing a small one night adventure under my guidance.
Course content
The course is 3 days long with the goal to spend at least one night on top of a mountain vol biv style. The course will look something like this (weather dependent):
Day 1
Gear check, including how to pack your stuff for both hiking and flying. Useful tips on optimizing what you choose bring on a vol biv.
Try to do some flying to get used to all our equipment.
Guidance on top-landings and thermaling.
Day 2
This day we’ll aim to end on top of a mountain somewhere.
Once conditions are good we will launch and fly together to the pre-decided location for spending the evening. Ideally arriving early to take our time with the landing.
Once we all landed there we’ll find a place to camp and spend the night there.
Day 3
After we’ve woken up on the mountain we’ll slowly pack all our stuff and wait for the day to turn on.
Once this happens we’ll take off and try to fly back to where we started.
Where
The French Alps. Exact location will be determined by the weather.
Location options include, but are not limited to:
- Lac de Serre-Ponçon
- Saint-André-les-Alpes
- Annecy
- Saint-Hilaire
For who
This course is meant for licensed pilots who have some basic thermal skills.
No lightweight or other specialised gear necessary. If everything goes according to plan there should be no hiking :-).
All you need is a sleeping matt/bag and a normal paragliding setup.
